Job Description

This is someone who has strong leadership skills as he/she will have a team of 7 in total. This position reports to a VP so the intent is to leave a runway for someone to gain career traction down the down. This position is pivotal, highly visible leadership role working in close cross-functional collaboration with the Marketing, Innovation, Commercialization, and Operations teams to bring new and renovated products and packaging to market. This is a fast-paced role that requires leading the packaging engineering team over multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently advancing packaging development and commercialization from the feasibility phase through to production-scale capability and readiness, achieving successful and on time packaged-product introductions into the market.

The ideal candidate will have strong and successful experience in leading aggressive packaging design and process development which includes conceptualizing, prototyping, specifying, commercializing, and validating new packaged product introductions into high volume production, enabling packaging as a consumer and customer differentiator. Will also have involvement with the environmental sustainability through leadership consistent with the company.

About the job:

This role will be responsible for the oversight of development and execution of all new packaging solutions and sourcing duties.

Duties:

  • Lead team of 7 direct reports on all new innovation, new launch
  • Hands on in all concept / packaging for manufacturability, cost of goods, and lead time(s) for each brand(s)
  • Ability to work with all (vendors and subcontractors) on specs, design, quality and expectations from production through filling & assembly
  • Competent in geometric analysis of 2D/3D objects and understanding of clearances, fit and finish, and subcomponents
  • New packaging concepts, market trends, technologies innovation presented from both in and out of the industry

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

A decisive leader and manager with a proven track record of delivering mission critical company objectives and commitments. Able to effectively lead cross-functionally at all levels in the organization. With relevant management, technical, operation, and team building experience.

Must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years in food packaging / sourcing / flexible packaging specific desired
  • REQUIRED - analysis and oversight of materials used in construction and manufacturing of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging including decorating techniques and materials directly from and in Food Industry, primarily flexible packaging
  • Innovation Development experience is required

Demonstrated leadership and management experience in an aggressive growth business environment with a track record of overcoming difficult challenges in achieving business objectives. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability.

Industry recognized packaging leader with technical curiosity outside of known solutions, connecting technologies with opportunities to champion packaging as an enabler for differentiation. Thought leader in the utilization of predictive modeling, rapid prototyping, and accelerated validation technologies to inform scientific, evidence-based business decisions. High desire for the candidate be proficient in both packaging barrier material specifications and factor conversion (machinability). Serves as the thought leader and steward of environmentally sustainable packaging solutions consistent with the brand image.

Successful food packaging development and commercial scale-up skills with a track record of planning, leading, and executing projects and deliverables clearly, as well as holding engineering and project teams fully engaged, enabled and accountable for achieving results.

Food Industry experience is required. Must have 7+ years of food packaging experience, which includes 5+ years of relevant management experience leading food packaging engineering in NPI process development and production scale-up. Leadership of predictive modeling tools such as 3D rapid prototyping, AutoCAD Inventor or Solidworks, primary/secondary/tertiary/pallet/truck loading (i.e., TOPS), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or others are a plus
