We are seeking a highly motivatedHydrology and Hydraulics Engineer (PE)to join our growing Design Management Services team inChicago, IL.The ideal candidate will have experience in stormwater management, drainage design, and hydraulics and hydrology computations for roadway and site development projects for municipal, state or private sector clients. This position has the unique ability to partner with and learn from some of the best engineers, project managers, and other technical staff in the industry.

  • Execute engineering best practices on a wide variety of projects for a wide variety of clients, adapting to new environments quickly
  • Prepare Hydrology and Hydraulic (H&H) reports as needed to support roadway and site development projects.
  • Design detention systems including overall sizing, stage storage analysis, outflow structure design, and water surface elevation determination.
  • Design storm drain and culvert systems including performing hydraulic grade line, pipe sizing, and inlet sizing calculations as needed to support roadway and site development projects.
  • Prepare erosion control plans, storm water pollution prevention plans, as necessary to support roadway and site development projects.
  • Perform Quality Control reviews on (H&H) reports and storm drain designs by peers and provide constructive comments to ensure quality deliverables to clients.
  • Perform reviews of (H&H) reports and storm drain design submittals from outside consultants for land development projects to ensure they meet the design requirements of the city or municipality.
  • Assign tasks to associate engineers as needed to effectively prepare drainage reports, and storm drain design.
  • Assist Project Managers in the production of project plans, specifications, scheduling, budgeting, technical memorandums and cost estimates.
  • Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections, and assist with data collection, compilation and assessment for infrastructure projects
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, cities/clients, and other public agencies


  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience in hydraulics, hydrology, stormwater management and design for municipal, state or land development clients.
  • Specializations in street/grading/utility design, drainage and overall stormwater management, and hydraulic modeling including experience with modeling software such as HEC HMS, HydroCAD or StormCAD
  • Active Professional Engineer License in IL or ability to obtain the same within 18 months from commencement of employment.
  • Experience in writing technical reports and memorandums.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be flexible, well organized, accountable and dependable
  • Physically able to perform occasional work at project locations.


  • Experience with HEC RAS, StormCAD, or other modeling software
  • Experience using computer assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering and design documents (examples include software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, and GIS)
  • Ability to transfer data from drainage design software into CAD and vice versa.
